Plant List #1 Japanese Black Pine Pinus thunbergiana or thunbergii

This picturesque specimen tree is native to mountainous areas of Japan. Japanese Black Pines grow slowly. They mature to form an open shape up to 30 feet high (but often much smaller). This pine is hardy in the desert, mountains, & coastal areas of Southern California. There are two needles per fascicle (similar to Pinus halepensis) but they are longer than any other pine on our list.
