Calliandra californica is a native to the Sonoran Desert areas of Baja California in Mexico. The shrub which is in the Pea family ( Leguminoaceae) has beutiful ferny foliage that is deciduous in the winter. This plant is grown for its "feather duster" like red flowers which attract hummingbirds from all around. Fairyduster grows into an open shrub 4 to 5 feet high & wide. I t can be killed to the ground at 15 degrees but will grow back from roots. Drought tollerant this plant loves heat & full sun.
